Best Places to work 2012

For the second straight year, Skookum has been ranked by the Charlotte Business Journal as one of the Best Places to Work in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 2012, we were awarded the number seven slot in the Small Business category, up from number 14 in 2011.

Number 7 in Your Program…But Number 1 in Your Hearts

Best Places to Work in Charlotte 2012

It’s true this ranking also makes us the best software and technology company to work for in Charlotte and beyond. The world? Maybe the world. We think it’s great here (obviously).

Certainly if you want to build great software, work with incredibly talented people doing work that matters, and are tired of that SF/NY thing, you want to work here.

Sounds Awesome. What Makes Skookum so Sweet?

Along with the great CLT weather, smart colleagues, and having your considerable talents matter, the Skookum also features some neat perks that come along with having more employees than either of the co-founder’s ages (and next year, possibly their combined age).

Skookum Office Perks

  • state of the art equipment (if you’re making tomorrow’s technology, of course you need awesome tools)

  • paid honeymoons (go enjoy yourself, doesn’t count against PTO)

  • paid maternal/paternal time (enough to worry about here)

  • flexible work-from-home options (that’s what Google Hangouts, chat, and all our collab tools are for)

  • health and dental insurance (healthy people = more good work)

  • 401K matching (retirement planning, yo)

  • catered Friday lunches (Skookum Tech Talks are the hot spot around town)

  • paid, ongoing learning (if that conference makes you better, it’s on the house)

  • office gym with sauna (time for some mob-movie-style client meetings in white towels)

  • monthly and quarterly outings (golf anyone?)

  • standup or seated desks (freakshow, DIY Standup Desks also welcome)

  • company-paid, bike-sharing membership (via Charlotte’s new Bcycle program)

  • daily fresh fruit (omnom nom)

  • fully stocked kitchen (fuel for fingers on keyboards)

Many of the other companies listed were also quite fond of the "employees choose office music" perk. We thought that was a little weird considering that EVERY employee at Skookum can listen to whatever music they want…anytime. So we definitely have the best music policy too.

Don’t Forget: Skookum T-shirts Are Also Collectors Items

Yes, our gear is fresh (and we keep our friends and clients styling).

Stickers? We’ve got stickers. And mints by the front door. Those too. Like high-fives? Everyone here loves high-fives. Bounce castle? No. No bounce castle.

This is a professional establishment.

In short, we’re very proud of the Skookum Digital Works culture. And not only is our hometown proud of the SDW HQ, maybe you would be proud to call us home as well.

If we don’t know ‘ya but think we should, hit us up.
